In this month’s Signal International report we look at France’s elite firms. The report provides an analysis of five-year headount trends among the 13 French firms in our European 100 ranking.
We also look at the partnerships at these firms to answer the question if it takes longer to make partner in France.

Despite a perception in Paris that associates have to wait longer to make partner than their counterparts across the Channel or in some of the more competitive German markets indicative data analysis produced by The Lawyer has found this perception to be false. In fact, the average PQE, or the French equivalent thereof, among the French firms featured in our annual European 100 report of new partners at those firms was 10.9PQE. As ever, the main barrier to partner entry is gender. Women wait on average an extra 1.3 years to make partner than their male counterparts do. At just two of the 11 French firms in the European 100 report that were analysed were women promoted faster than men.

To find out which those firms are, read the full report now.
