Kristofer McGhee

Brought up in a single-parent family in Lanarkshire and the first in his family to attend university, Kristofer McGhee recognised the value of education as a means for escaping poverty at an early age. Lacking the grades for a law degree, he studied social policy and business management at Glasgow, furthering his interest in making a difference in the world.

That interest has come to fruition at the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, where he has moved mountains to help get T Levels, the Government’s flagship reforms to technical education, ready for launch in 2020. It was a milestone reached after nearly four years of hard work to get the first courses signed off – a momentous achievement given the timeframe was thought very ambitious.

The next four years will see further T Levels introduced so the work only continues. Happily, McGhee, once a sole lawyer at the Institute, now has four colleagues alongside him, allowing him to take on a more high-level strategic role for an organisation that is likely to have its remit broadened in 2021. The reward for success: more work.
