Alex Butwell, 25 from Tividale, was killed when he was hit by a BMW on the M40 in March last year.

Mr Butwell’s car had been hit by a Mann artic lorry driven by George Carr, and ended up hitting the central barrier and coming to a stop sticking out into the fast lane. Mr Butwell and his two passengers got out of the car, but Mr Butwell was hit by a BMW driven by Donald Corrigan, and was killed.

Carr, 63 from Lincolnshire, denied causing death by dangerous driving and Corrigan, 67 of Coventry pleaded not guilty to causing Mr Butwell’s death by driving without due care and attention.

Ian Bridge, member of No5 Chambers’ crime group, represented Donald Corrigan, who has now been acquitted.

The trial continues.
