Allen & Overy (A&O) partner Paul Griffin has joined White & Case’s oil and gas team.

Griffin has been with A&O for six years, during which time he was sent to the firm’s Hong Kong office to boost its Asia-Pacific energy practice.

He joined A&O from Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) in 2010, where he led its oil, gas and LNG sector groups. He had been a partner at the firm since 2000, joining from US firm Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft.

At White & Case, Griffin joins the team as counsel, serving as a senior adviser on a part-time basis. His hire corresponds to the US firm’s 2020 strategy, which prioritises growth in the financial, private equity, technology and oil and gas practice areas.

So far this year, White & Case has hired a number of partners in these areas, such as Ashurst partners Jonathan Parry and Mark Clarke. It also recruited Hogan Lovells partner Guy Potel to its corporate team.
