Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has revealed how many of its autumn trainee qualifiers will be staying on at the firm as newly qualified (NQ) solicitors.

The firm has 38 trainees reaching qualification of whom 36 applied for NQ positions. It offered jobs to 32, with all accepting, giving a total retention rate of 84 per cent.

The firm refused, however, to reveal how many trainees were retained on fixed-term rather than permanent contracts.

Training partner Craig Montgomery said: “We are thrilled that so many of the newly qualified associates in our September 2020 qualifying intake are staying with the firm. Attracting, retaining and developing the best talent for the long term remains a key priority for us and we are extremely proud of what these lawyers have achieved so far.”

Three of the four magic circle firms have now unveiled their retention results, with Linklaters the outlier.
