Baker McKenzie has announced its retention figures for the spring, keeping on 12 of 17 final-seat trainees.

The 70 per cent retention rate is unusually low for the firm, which made made 14 offers, with two declining to join smaller teams in other firms.

Three of the newly qualified solicitors will join the firm’s corporate team, three will join employment, two will go to the EU, competition and trade group, and two will specialise in IP and tech. The final two trainees will join the banking and dispute resolution teams.

Baker McKenzie’s Training Principal Arron Slocombe: “We are very pleased to welcome another strong group of trainees into permanent roles as qualified lawyers across both our transactional and advisory departments. Our retention rate remains high this spring, although not quite at the level we have seen previously. Attracting and retaining the best talent is crucial to grow our business and that’s why we give our trainees the best opportunities for a successful and fulfilling career.”

Elsewhere, Macfarlanes has kept on of all six of its final-seat trainees.
